The Chimney Rock Bridge replacement over the Upper Iowa River is a current project for Brennan Construction. The existing structure is a through truss constructed by the Continental Bridge Company in 1906 and relocated to the current location in 1952. Damage from high water and debris forced the closure of the existing bridge in 2017. In lieu of demolishing the scenic structure, Winneshiek County opted to realign Chimney Rock Road and construct a new bridge parallel to the existing bridge. One unique aspect of any bridge we construct in this region of the Upper Iowa is the presence of people canoeing and kayaking down the Upper Iowa as evidenced in the second-to-last picture below.
