A unique bridge in an idyllic setting this bridge replaced the historic Upper Bluffton Bridge over the Upper Iowa River in the summer of 2011. The Upper Bluffton Bridge was a wrought iron Pratt through truss with a 166-foot main span. The truss was supplied by the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Canton, OH and erected at this location in 1880. Structural concerns with the historic bridge led to its closure, and ultimately, its replacement. This three-span, pre-tensioned, pre-stressed, concrete beam bridge has a curve, skew, superelevation, and longitudinal slope which increased the level of difficulty during construction but also helped to create one of the more picturesque structures constructed by Brennan Construction.
